Put on your robes and grab your wand, because it’s time to hitch a ride on your broom to Hogsmeade. “Hogwarts Legacy” is a new game, set a century before Harry Potter was born into the Wizarding World.
The game begins with the player’s character gaining an acceptance letter from Professor Matilda Weasly into Hogwarts, before they meet up with their elected mentor Professor Eleazar Fig. The two are then escorted to the school of witchcraft and wizardry by flying coachwagon, while they were discussing an unknown artifact - before they are unexpectedly attacked by a dragon. The player and Fig then use the artifact to escape, discovering it was a portkey - an object that allows the wielder to teleport to a set destination, so long as the wielder grabs it - set to Gringotts, the sole bank in the wizarding world that run completely by goblins. While they roam through the bank of the wizarding world, the player will make two large discoveries alongside Professor Fig - not only can the player see ancient magic, but the goblins are planning a revolution with aid of Dark Wizards. After a swift getaway from the main antagonist Ranrok, the player and Professor Fig finally arrive at Hogwarts and start the player’s fifth term.
Avalanche Studios, the developers of Hogwarts Legacy, has worked hard to give its fans a game they will all enjoy. Avalanche Studios was founded in October 1995 by four programmers that used to work at Sculptured Software, including its CEO John Blackburn. Later, on Apr. 19, 2005 - Disney Interactive Studios acquired Avalanche for an undisclosed price. While partnered with Disney, Avalanche studios developed and published a toy-to-life game trilogy “Disney Infinity” - but watched as it was sadly discontinued due to a lack of growth in the toys-to-life market and Disney Interactive Studios were closed down, with Avalanche included. However, Warner Bros. Games made a public announcement on Jan. 24, 2017 that they have acquired the game and reopened it. This gaming company developed many games under its new ownership and old ownership, such as “Cars 3: Driven To Win,” “Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3”, “Dragon Ball Z: Sagas” and others.
In Hogwarts Legacy, the player will be able to learn how to cast spells known throughout the Harry Potter books and movies, craft potions with different types of effects and properties and create bonds with the other students in the school - some of which will help the player on their quest to stop the goblin revolution in more ways than one. An example of this would be Sebastian Sallow, a Slytherin who will teach the players how to cast the three unforgivable curses - “Imperio”, “Crucio” and “Avada Kedavra” - in his questline.
All and all, Hogwarts Legacy is an excellent game for those who love Harry Potter’s take on magic and witchcraft. The game was released originally on Feb. 10 for the “PS5”, “Windows” and “Xbox Series X/S” - but another copy of the game was released on April 4 for the “PS4” and “Xbox 1”, with another release planned for the “Nintendo Switch” on July 25.
