As Thanksgiving approaches, Warriors can almost taste the turkey, cranberries, stuffing and pumpkin pie being prepped. This year's Thanksgiving could be even more special than the last one with new family traditions and activities.
Warren Central High School students have a variety of traditional Thanksgiving meals and activities they do during this bountiful holiday.
I’Bri Beck, a sophomore at Warren Central, said that her family usually eats banana pudding on Thanksgiving.
“We do not have any family traditions, but we do eat a lot and pray together,” she said.
During Thanksgiving, a lot of families like Beck’s come together and spend time with one another.
“Before me and my family eat, we get in a big circle around the house and pray and enjoy each other's company,” sophomore Brooklyn Shepherd said.
Shepherd also stated that her family’s table is usually full of ham, sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes.
Thanksgiving is one of many holidays that brings family and friends together with food and thanks that everyone shares. Joshua Hines, a sophomore at Warren Central High School, stated that he and his family watch sports during Thanksgiving and visit each other.
“My family mainly eats turkey, yams, mac and cheese and greens,” Hines said.
Sophomore Demi Phinisee said her family's traditional dishes for Thanksgiving are also turkey and mac and cheese, along with chicken, cornbread and many more.
“My grandma also likes to make caramel apple cookies,” Phinisee said. “Me and my family would also sometimes leave the city and go to Chicago and have Thanksgiving at other family homes.”
Phinisee also said that she and her family play board games with each other, like Uno, Monopoly, Connect 4 and more.
Onai Escobedo, a senior at Warren, said his family traditionally eats turkey and his mom boils small potatoes and season them, along with macaroni and mashed potatoes.
“Some Thanksgiving activities that we mainly do is watch movies and go out to see family and friends,” he said.
Ayesha Tabb, a sophomore at Warren Central, stated that she normally eats her grandma's macaroni on Thanksgiving.
“We do not have our own traditional foods that we eat on Thanksgiving, but we usually go to my grandma’s house and do karaoke,” Tabb said.
A lot of families for Thanksgiving tend to have turkey, mac and cheese, and sweet potato pie for this festive holiday. Josiah Lossie, a senior, said mac and cheese is the main dish on his Thanksgiving table and is something that he can find on a plate every year.
“We don’t really have our own traditional food for Thanksgiving, but when I bring up sweet potato casserole people have usually never heard of it,” Lossie said. “We usually visit family and play spades.”
